Meet Dot, the little wild horse foal! She is a Przewalski’s horse, the only true wild horse species of the world. Although the origin of this endangered species is in Mongolia, Dot lives in the heart of Europe, on the grassy plains of Hungary called the “Puszta”.
25 years ago some were introduced here and the wild horses instantly formed an organic connection with this magical land: today it is one of the world’s largest wild horse herd with 300 animals!
This is their story, told through the growing up of Dot. She has to learn the complicated relations within the wild horse society, sometimes through dramatic other times joyful events.
For three years, the filmmakers literally followed the footsteps of the ever-wandering herd focusing on one single wild horse foal and her family. They captured incredible and never-before-seen intimate moments from the secret life of these unique animals and the rich wildlife that surrounds them.
Zoltan Török grew up in rural Hungary where he spent most of his childhood and teenage years tramping in the nearby marshes and forests. He has been working in the tv and cinema industry for two decades producing mostly wildlife and nature related films as director, cameraman and producer for international channels including NatGeo.
Today he lives in Sweden and runs his own producing company called Wild Tales Productions. His films have been awarded close to hundred times on various film festivals around the globe and also generated heart-warming ratings on television world-wide. Main films: Cyanide Blues (2001) Parting Lands (2004) Otter Man (2007) Wild Hungary (2011) The Everglades (2015) Return of the Lemming (2016) Wild Horses (2021)
This is my personal homage to a unique land and the its wildlife that I love so much. Also, this is my first feature length wildlife documentary for theatrical release. I wanted to show, (without anthropomorphization) that animals, wild horses in our story, are in fact individual characters.
