Our Mission To reduce the overpopulation of cats in the San Antonio area through public education, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), rescue, and empowering the community to care for outside cats. Our Vision vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern. A Permanent, Community-Based, Self-Sustainable Refuge for Displaced Exotic and Wild Animals Founded in 2017, BEARS Etc. is the nation’s first bear-centric sanctuary. Located in Walker County, Texas, we connect people with nature through education and awareness. We are building a state-of-the-art facility, providing a safe place for neglected, abused and unwanted bears that are a part of the exotic pet trade and giving them a PEACE of the Wild. More: https://bearsetc.org/ Why the Need for Sanctuary?
How would you feel if a bear or other large animal was living next door to you, in your neighbor’s back yard? As outrageous as it sounds, it happens all over the United States. Since the advent of the internet, private owners and road side attractions have purchased bear cubs for as little as $300, but often don’t have the facilities to properly house large, dangerous carnivores safely and with dignity. Because private ownership of these animals is not viable in the long term and the animal can not be placed back in the wild or zoo, the need for rescue organizations with sanctuary spaces is needed now more than ever. Across the United States, thousands of large exotic animals are in need of placement, and we’re here to help! Do You Know of a Exotic Animal in Need of Rescue? BEARS Etc. is South Texas’ leader in animal rescue and placement. Whether it’s a private owner who no longer can care for the exotic animal, a person or organization selling these animals through the exotic pet trade, or animal control needing assistance, our organization has a long history of facilitating solutions for these animals. We also aid in aviary and aquatic rescues, with on-premise facilities. Our network is large, as is our ability to help. K9SWAT.org trains service dogs and battle buddies for local veterans who suffer from social isolation, MST, and/or PTSD. Eligible dogs undergo advanced training to be partnered with veterans in need of an Emotional Support Animal or K9SWAT Certified Service Dog, completely free of charge. K9SWAT.org supports those veterans and their dogs with training and recertification throughout the dog’s life. Competitiveness is engrained in our Veteran community, and many times, service members struggle to maintain their competitive drive upon separation from the military. This program assists Veterans in finding their ideal athletic teammate (rescue dogs in many cases), in addition to providing scholarship training programs for existing Veteran-owned companions. Program includes pairing Veterans with a companion, training, and all associated competitive fees (entry fees, etc) for the first full year of competition. Our Mission Serving all over South Texas, we rescue and foster abused, abandoned, and neglected dogs until they can find their “furever” homes, whether in Texas or another part of the country – even Canada! We have been “Rescuing God’s Lost Dogs” since 1995. We are a team of incredible individuals with a passion for animal… doing the work it takes to save so many dogs who had no other chance! More: https://www.godsdogsrescue.org/ A message from our Founder and CEO
I have lived all over the country during my military and civilian career and have never seen anything like the serious stray problem that we have in San Antonio! I moved here 24 years ago and have been rescuing and rehabilitating animals since then; it is truly my God-given passion! I have been so blessed to find so many others who are like-minded about saving dogs. Together, we are a FORCE to be reckoned with! We have 300 individuals and families volunteering their time and 300 foster homes opening their homes to so many dogs who need that extra TLC and time. We have been transporting dogs/pups to their forever homes since 2014. Since then we have adopted out and transported almost 7,000 dogs who would not be around if not for this fantastic team.
