Teresa Carante https://www.teresacarante.com Cinematographer, Documentary Filmmaker Teresa Carante is an award-winning documentary cinematographer with an unwavering love for wildlife and the natural world. With a decade of traversing the globe and capturing awe-inspiring moments, Teresa has learned how to adeptly capture breathtaking moments and transform them into compelling stories that resonate with audiences. From filming with Aboriginal elders and dingoes in the vast landscapes of Australia to sharing a home with a retired nurse and her five pet crocodiles in Melbourne, Teresa's experiences have been as diverse as the subjects she has captured. Venturing into the heart of Northern Vietnam, she went undercover to document the plight of endangered Asian pangolins and sailed the North Pacific aboard an anti-whaling ship, surrounded by passionate environmentalists. She is deeply committed to utilising her craft for ocean conservation and has served as a topside Director of Photography for prestigious organisations like Pristine Seas National Geographic Society and Neptune Pirates, The Paul Watson Foundation. In Jun 2023 she joined "Operation Paiakan" & "Operation Bloody Fjords" on board of Neptune's Pirates new ship, the John Paul Dejoria, navigating across the North Atlantic Ocean reaching Iceland first and the Faroe Islands last. The following month she was filming for Pristine Seas in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and was invited again as top-side DP and Field Producer this year for their most ambitious expedition in Papua New Guinea. In 2022 Teresa's short film "The Awakening of the Vietnamese Elephant" not only secured numerous awards but also received an Honorable Mention at the Jackson Wild Media Awards. Teresa was also selected as one of nine wildlife cinematographers globally and participated in the 2022 Jackson Wild Cinematography Lab in Austria, mentored by luminaries Paul Atkins, ASC, and Stephen Lighthill, ASC, an experience that expanded her creative horizons. Subsequently, she was accepted into the ASC Vision Mentorship Program 2023-2024, receiving invaluable guidance from Rodney Taylor, ASC. As a Vision Mentee, in November 2023 Teresa was invited to apply to the Fresh Perspectives in Cinematography Grants, an initiative offered by AbelCine in collaboration with ARRI and The ASC - made available only to Vision Mentees. To her great joy, she was selected and offered $40.000 in ARRI video equipment and support to shoot her latest underwater short film 'POLICE DIVE', which is now about to premiere at the Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival in Washington DC. Manuel Solis www.montevideo210.org MonteVideo founder Manuel Solis is an independent filmmaker and programmer based in San Antonio. His films have screened at Artpace, Galeria Guadalupe, and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Manuel is a staple of curration in many facets of the indie film scene in San Antonioo and elsewhere. Solis launched MonteVideo in 2020 to screen Latinx-themed independent films for underserved communities at non-traditional venues. Since its inception, the organization has held more than 30 free screenings across San Antonio. “I’ve always wanted to do film programming that is accessible to our gente – people from the neighborhood,” Solis told MySA during a recent interview. “We’re taking films out of the arthouse and bringing them straight to the community.” With support from the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, founded MonteVideo, an ongoing film series whose purpose is to provide Latinx-themed independent film screenings for underserved communities via nontraditional venues. Served as liaison between ITVS and Presa House Gallery. CineFestival Programmer Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center February 2016 − October 2019 Programmed the original and longest running Latino film festival in the United States. Reviewed and evaluated film entries to create festival theme and schedule. Oversaw all aspects of the festival including logistics, programming, marketing and public relations. Additionally served as curator of CineFestival in 2003, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Selected Exhibitions 2020: “The Social Otherwise”, Contingent Habitat, Artpace, San Antonio, TX 2019: “Tejano Exile”, Photoplay, Galería Guadalupe, San Antonio TX 2008: “El Carreton (The Cart)”, New Works: 07.3, Artpace, San Antonio, TX His programming credits include CineFestival, Urbanworld, and Raza Cósmica: A constellation of Latinx sci-fi cinema. He recently served as a reviewer for the Austin Film Society Grant for Feature Films. His latest film, The Social Otherwise, a collaboration with acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Cauleen Smith, was featured in the Contingent Habitat exhibition. Jay Pennington on IMDB Jay is returning as a juror for #AniFab24 focusing this year on features. Recent projects include the scammer in Magnum PI, Renee Zellweger's lawyer in The Thing About Pam, and the bartender in Miranda Lambert's mega hit video "If I Was A Cowboy". Jay has been writing/acting/making films with Gerry Olert which have been winning awards in festivals around the globe. His latest feature film "Heart Cycles" is winning awards for screenplay, feature film, acting, score, cinematography and directing, Jay always had pets growing up in San Antonio (and Comfort, TX) as well as a love for Nature and all animals. About 20 years ago, with his computer science background Jay created a huge software & database system that helps people find their pets in animal service facilities/pounds and through neighborhood posts. The 501(c)(3) Pet Search and Rescue, Inc. This is Jay's second time performing jury service for the Animalis Fabula Film Festival, he served on the jury of #AniFab22. |
