DOGMA After adopting a new dog, the owner quickly realizes he's signed up for more than he bargained for. Director Dave Rosas, Based in SoCal, Dave spent his childhood studying film on his living room couch and honing his craft on his dad's dinosaur of a computer. After graduating in 2020 with a bachelor's in media studies, he spent the next few years sharpening his skills as a writer-director until 2024, when he wrote and directed his first short film, "Dogma", which starred his own dog. As an enthusiast of all films, Dave does not restrict himself to any one genre or style, instead choosing to focus on stories that inspire people to reflect on their own values and ideals. https://www.filmstartshere.com/dogma Director Statement "Dogma" is a film about our personal dogmas through the lens of something many can relate to - adopting and bringing a new dog home for the first time. The film serves to show how easy it is to blur the line between what we believe versus what we know, often to the detriment of our own personal values. The Dolphin Dilemma Imagine, waking up being covered in third-degree burns, that's what it's like for the Burrunan dolphins in Australia. But why is this happening? That's what Dr. Duignan, Director of Pathology at The Marine Mammal Center, Dr. Stephen’s from Murdoch University, and Dr. Robb from the Marine Mammal Foundation had to find out. This film explores this international collaboration that proves for the first time that these lesions being found on cetaceans around the world are only caused by climate change. Director Olivia Andrus-Drennan is the producer, director, cinematographer, editor, and owner of Big Sky Genesis Productions LLC. Currently, she a video producer for the Global Foundation for Ocean Explorations working on videos to highlight the research being done in the deep sea. She graduated from Montana State University with the Science and Natural History Filmmaking Degree in the fall of 2022. She has produced many different award-winning documentaries such as The Dolphin Dilemma, Diversified: The Florida Panther Story, Grounded, and Beauty. https://www.bigskygenesis.com/films Director Statement This project came from an internship I did with The Marine Mammal Center after they had published the first paper proving that climate change is responsible for lesions on cetaceans around the world. The scientists working on this project are devoted to the protection of our ocean health and our world. It touched my heart and I hope to share with the viewers that same urgency as the oceans continue to warm. There are things we can do in our local communities around the world to help combat climate change and protect our homes in the process. Get involved with your communities science groups, learn how you can help where you live, and together lets protect the world we call home! Triage For Gemma and James, a simple car ride to the vet escalates into a full-blown crisis, exposing hard truths beneath the surface of their relationship. Set in the early days of the pandemic, TRIAGE is a claustrophobic pressure cooker and exploration of who we truly love when our worlds fall apart. WRITER / DIRECTOR / EDITOR David Rendall is a Toronto-born artist and filmmaker in Picton, Prince Edward County. He is currently in post-production for a short animated documentary about the holocaust in Romania called 'Today Is A Gift' (funded by the Ontario Arts Council). https://www.instagram.com/heliographpictures/ Director Statement My vision for TRIAGE was to make a social realist drama with a cinéma vérité documentary feel that responded to the claustrophobic and isolating conditions of the pandemic in Ontario. In particular, I wanted to convey a sense of confinement and pressure on a young couple by setting the film inside a van for nearly the whole story. I also wanted to displace speaking directly about the virus, instead communicating about a couple’s concern for their ill cat. The film asks questions like - how much would you be willing to sacrifice to save your pet’s life at the vet? but also about the larger difficult choices we made in the pandemic. The term ‘triage’ refers to a system that sorts the order of patient care in a larger crisis in order to maximize the number of survivors. This system was employed in the pandemic, and the film is about the conflicting views of each character’s crises during this state of emergency. |
